Children and young people can learn about life in ancient times in a variety of ways at the museums on Königsplatz. In close cooperation with the Museum Education Centre Munich (→ MPZ) and the Munich Adult Education Centre (→ MVHS) as well as independent organisations, we offer a rich programme for families with children and young people, kindergartens, school classes and other groups. The spectrum of events ranges from individual discovery tours with discovery sheets, guided tours followed by creative activities, children’s birthday parties, to one- or multi-day workshops (holiday activities or project weeks) in which participants can immerse themselves in ancient culture in a playful way.
A number of children’s activities take place on a regular basis, while others can be booked on request. You can find the programme on this page. Guided tours for children can be booked either as →school classes or →privately, in which case you should indicate the participation of children in advance under ‘Comments’.

Media guide for children
For several years now, the media guide newly developed for the Glyptothek has been a special attraction for children: Glauki, the museum owl, accompanies children and young people through the Glyptothek in a humorous, inquisitive and sometimes clumsy manner. She is assisted by the all-knowing goddess Athena.
In two guided tours (approx. 60 min.), 6-8-year-old explorers and 9-14-year-old smart alecks can playfully discover masterpieces of the Glyptothek such as the Kuros of Tenea, the Barberini Faun, the Athena of Aegina, the Augustus Bevilacqua or the Boy with the Goose. With the help of Glauki’s curious questions and Athena’s clever answers, the children and young people discover a new sculpture in each room of the Glyptothek, which sometimes even speaks to them. A short quiz at the end of each section leads to the next figure.
The media guide for children iy currently only available in German language.
Free download for smartphones and tablets from the App Stores at → Apple and → Google. It is best to download the media guide before visiting the museum!
