State collections of antiquities
Unfortunately, the collection of antique miniature art, spread over three floors, is not wheelchair accessible. This applies both to access to the building via the stairs at the main entrance and to the interior layout with its three exhibition levels. The toilets are also not wheelchair accessible. These shortcomings can only be remedied as part of a general renovation of the building, which we are strongly advocating for.
Media guides
In collaboration with KIAG, Bonn, and Dölling und Galitz Verlag, Munich/Hamburg, a museum app and two media guides in German and English were created for the Glyptothek and the State Collections of Antiquities. They enable visitors to put together a guided tour of the museum tailored to their own interests and questions.
Media guide app State Collections if Antiquities
Three guided tours of the antiquities collections:
Highlights: A selection of 16 masterpieces; duration approx. 60 minutes.
For connoisseurs: 104 individually selected works; total duration of audio and video approx. 330 minutes.
Vase art: Guided tour of Greek vase painting from the geometric to the classical period; duration approx. 70 minutes.
Free download for smartphones and tablets from the Apple App Store. It is best to download the media guide before visiting the museum.
Media guide app Glyptothek
Four guided tours of the Glyptothek:
Highlights: A selection of 13 highlights from the collection; duration approx. 70 minutes.
For connoisseurs: Information on 90 works in an individual selection; total duration of audio and video approx. 270 minutes.
The Greek view of humanity: Guided tour on the development of Greek sculpture from the 6th to the 1st century BC; duration approx. 60 minutes.

Free download for smartphones and tablets from the Apple App Store. It is best to download the media guide before visiting the museum.
Media guide for children
Glauki, the museum owl, accompanies children and young people through the Glyptothek in a humorous, inquisitive and sometimes clumsy manner. She is assisted by the all-knowing goddess Athena. In two guided tours, 6–8-year-old explorers and 9–14-year-old smart alecks can playfully discover masterpieces of the Glyptothek such as the Kuros of Tenea, the Barberini Faun, the Athena of Aegina, the Augustus Bevilacqua and the Boy with the Goose.
With the help of Glauki’s curious questions and Athena’s clever answers, the children and young people discover a new sculpture in each room of the Glyptothek, which sometimes even speaks to them. A short quiz at the end of each section leads to the next figure. Both guided tours of the media guide introduce young museum visitors to the art and culture of Greek and Roman antiquity in an entertaining and playful way. The media guide for children and young people ties in with the existing media guides in the State Collections of Antiquities and the Glyptothek. It is available in the museum on rental devices, but can also be downloaded free of charge as an app from the Apple or Google app stores onto your own smartphone. Each tour presents twelve outstanding objects in the Glyptothek in approximately 60 minutes.
The media guide for children and young people was created in collaboration with KIAG Knowledge Intelligence Applications GmbH, Bonn, and Dölling und Galitz Verlag, Munich/Hamburg. The narrators are Ruth Geiersberger, Gerd Meyer and Hans Jürgen Stockerl.
Free download (German language only) for smartphones and tablets from the Apple App Store. It is best to download the media guide before visiting the museum.
